La leva obbligatoria, ricordiamolo, non è stata abolita: è semplicemente sospesa e potrebbe essere riattivata con un atto di governo. Nel frattempo cresce la presenza dei militari nelle scuole, in nome dell’orientamento o dell’educazione civica. Presìdi, assemblee e cortei organizzati dalla Rete degli studenti medi e dall’Unione degli universitari per contestare il piano di riarmo europeo e le ipotesi di nuove forme di leva. “Le giovani generazioni sono terrorizzate dalla prospettiva della guerra e da una sensazione di incertezza permanente”, ha spiegato Angela Verdecchia, coordinatrice nazionale della Rete degli studenti medi. “Vogliamo una scuola e un’università di pace, libere dalla militarizzazione e dagli interessi dell’industria bellica. Le risorse pubbliche devono andare all’istruzione, alla sanità e al welfare, non alle armi”. Gli studenti denunciano anche il rischio che scuole e università diventino spazi di propaganda o bacini di reclutamento. In un contesto globale sempre più instabile — dalle tensioni in Medio Oriente all’apertura di nuovi fronti di conflitto — la risposta politica sembra concentrarsi quasi esclusivamente sull’aumento delle spese militari. Ma, ricordano molti giovani, più armi non significa automaticamente più sicurezza. E forse vale la pena ascoltarli. Perché la storia ci insegna che le guerre raramente vengono combattute da chi le decide. Al fronte non partono i figli di chi le promuove o ne trae vantaggio economico; partono soprattutto giovani e lavoratori, spesso già segnati da precarietà e mancanza di prospettive. È anche per questo che molti ragazzi chiedono semplicemente di essere ascoltati. Chiedono opportunità, istruzione, lavoro dignitoso, una sanità pubblica che funzioni. Chiedono un futuro che non sia definito dall’idea di dover difendere con le armi ciò che la politica non è riuscita a costruire con la giustizia sociale. Forse il primo passo non è imporre nuove forme di militarizzazione, ma riaprire uno spazio di confronto reale sulle politiche sociali e giovanili, nelle città e nel Paese. Riconoscere l’incertezza che attraversa questa generazione e provare ad affrontarla con strumenti diversi dalla logica della guerra. Dire “io obietto” non è uno slogan.
