Mentre Bruxelles fa la predica al mondo sui valori democratici e sullo stato di diritto, la verità è che il vero potere nell'UE è detenuto da persone per le quali nessuno ha mai votato. Nemmeno una volta. Non direttamente. Non democraticamente.
Sì, gli europei possono votare per eleggere i membri del Parlamento europeo ogni 5 anni. Ma ecco il piccolo segreto: il Parlamento non può nemmeno proporre leggi.
Si limita a votare su quelle emesse dalla Commissione, un gruppo di funzionari nominati e selezionati a porte chiuse attraverso contrattazioni politiche, accordi di partito e negoziati d'élite. Nessun controllo pubblico. Nessuna trasparenza. Nessuna responsabilità.
Una volta al potere, la Commissione gestisce di fatto l'UE. Controlla l'agenda legislativa. Definisce le politiche per 450 milioni di persone. Redige le leggi. Stabilisce il tono. It simply votes on those issued by the Commission, a group of officials nominated and selected behind closed doors through political bargaining, party deals, and elite negotiations. No public oversight. No transparency. No accountability.
