Chemically known as N-phenyl-3-oxobutanamide, acetoacetanilide is a white to light yellow crystalline powder. Its unique reactivity, particularly the presence of an active methylene group, makes it highly suitable for diazo coupling reactions—a key process in manufacturing azo dyes.
