Acetoacetanilide is a valuable organic compound extensively used as an intermediate in the synthesis of azo dyes, pigments, and other specialty chemicals. Chemically known as N-phenyl-3-oxobutanamide, acetoacetanilide is a white to light yellow crystalline powder. Its unique reactivity, particularly the presence of an active methylene group, makes it highly suitable for diazo coupling reactions—a key process in manufacturing azo dyes.
