Surface Preparation:

Cleaning: The CNC machined part is thoroughly cleaned to remove any oil, grease, dirt, or other contaminants. This typically involves degreasing, washing, and rinsing.  

Surface Treatment: Depending on the material and desired finish, the surface may undergo additional treatments such as:

l Phosphating: Improves adhesion and corrosion resistance.  

l Chromating: Enhances corrosion resistance and provides a good base for the powder coating.

l Abrasive Blasting: Creates a rough surface for better powder adhesion.

Powder Application:

Electrostatic Spraying: The most common method. The powder is charged with static electricity and sprayed onto the grounded part. The electrostatic charge attracts the powder particles to the part's surface.  

Fluidized Bed: The part is immersed in a fluidized bed of powder, where air is blown through the powder to create a cloud of particles that adhere to the part.

Curing:

The coated part is placed in a curing oven, where it is heated to a specific temperature for a specific time.  

This high temperature causes the powder to melt and flow, forming a smooth, continuous coating that fuses to the metal surface.  

Curing parameters (temperature and time) vary depending on the powder type and the desired properties of the coating.

Cooling and Inspection:

After curing, the parts are allowed to cool down before being removed from the oven.  

A thorough visual inspection is conducted to check for any defects such as uneven coating thickness, blemishes, or other imperfections.

Post-Curing Operations (Optional):

Depending on the application, some parts may undergo additional post-curing operations, such as:

Sealing: Applying a clear coat to enhance gloss, durability, and chemical resistance.  

Machining: Performing secondary machining operations on the powder-coated part, such as drilling or tapping.
