First, you have to slay Hephasto the Armorer, who guards the Hellforge. When you defeat him, you will obtain his Hellforge Hammer, which is required to break the stone.

Once you have the hammer, Mephisto’s Soulstone will appear and you will be able to smash it. After you do so you’ll get a rune and a few gems.

Arcane Sanctuary

Arcane Sanctuary is another place where you can expect to obtain good high-level Runes.

The gist here is that the ghosts in this place have a limited drop pool, so by killing them, you automatically have a higher chance of dropping runes. Make sure not to kill them off the path, and do check the end of the paths for chests.

These chests carry high-level loot within them, including runes.

Travincal

Everything here is up for grabs, especially the council. If you farm the council in Travincal you can quickly get great runes.

Lower Cross

This is probably the most farmed location for players playing through a single player campaign. There are a ton of poppables and if you are playing with 8 players the drop chance is so much higher. Also, be on the lookout for campfires. There is a tavern nearby that always spawns 2 super chests. The game can sometimes spawn up to 2 campfires, meaning you can potentially earn up to 6 super chests.

Use The Chaos Seal Pop Trick Technique

Another great method of farming runes is using The Chaos Seal Pop technique, it follows the themes of Matt's monster-killing again.
