Common Mistakes to Avoid When Setting Up a Chemical Injection Pump

Even experienced operators can make mistakes when setting up a chemical injection pump. Avoiding common errors can prevent downtime and costly repairs.

One frequent mistake is improper suction line design. Long or vertical suction lines can cause cavitation and loss of prime. Always keep suction lines short and straight.

Another mistake is ignoring chemical compatibility. Using incompatible materials can lead to corrosion, leaks, and premature pump failure.

Incorrect pressure ratings are also common. The discharge line and fittings must be rated higher than the maximum system pressure.

Skipping priming and calibration steps can result in inaccurate dosing. Always prime the pump fully and verify output before continuous operation.

Lastly, neglecting safety measures puts operators at risk. Proper ventilation, spill containment, and PPE should never be overlooked.
