Storage shelf life is a critical factor for label paper, directly impacting inventory management and cost-efficiency. Thermal label paper has a relatively short storage period, recommended for use within 1–2 years. Its sensitive thermal coating ages naturally over time and is highly reactive to temperature, humidity, and light. Long-term storage, especially in adverse conditions, can cause yellowing, background darkening, and printing failures.
In contrast, thermal transfer label paper boasts exceptional storage stability, lasting 3–5 years or longer. Its base materials (paper or synthetic fabrics) have stable chemical properties that resist deterioration. The main risks are moisture and dust, which may affect carbon ribbon adhesion—easily mitigated with proper storage.
Both types require consistent conditions: 18°C–26°C temperature, 40%–60% humidity, light and heat protection, and horizontal placement. For bulk purchasing and long-term inventory, thermal transfer paper is the reliable choice, while thermal paper demands a “first in, first out” approach to avoid waste.
