How Does an AOM Driver Work?

The inner workings of an AOM driver involve a series of stages:

 

Input Stage: Here, the driver receives and processes the electrical input signal. This may involve filtering, amplification, or shaping the signal depending on the driver's design and the AOM's requirements.

RF Signal Generation: The processed signal is then used to create a high-frequency RF signal. This often involves components like a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) that generates the base RF frequency, and potentially a modulator to incorporate the characteristics of the input signal onto the carrier RF signal.

Output Stage: The generated RF signal typically needs a power boost to effectively drive the AOM's transducer. This stage utilizes an amplifier to increase the signal strength without distorting it.

 

Think of it as an amplifier with a built-in translator. The translator tailors the electrical signal for the AOM, and the amplifier ensures it has enough "muscle" to create the desired effect on the light beam.
