Europe Ethnic Foods Market Growth Drivers:
Multicultural Population & Net Migration
The EU saw 2.8 million more people moving in during 2023. This made the total number of people in the EU go up to 449.2 million. In Germany, there are now 13 million people living there who were born in other countries. Destatis says that people from Turkey, the Middle East, and Asia are making a big impact. There is now much higher demand for foods they know well, like döner spices and ramen kits. Big supermarket chains like REWE have given three times more room to ethnic food items in their city shops since 2023. Aldi Süd has also added a “World Kitchen” section that will stay in 250 of its North Rhine-Westphalia stores.
Hospitality Boom & Dining-Out Spend
Europe’s food and catering field is the EU's biggest job provider for people who work in factories. Eurostat says that people in Europe spent €3,980 each on food and eating out in 2022. In 2024, Deliveroo saw a 28% rise in orders from different types of restaurants in France. Just Eat Takeaway brought in 1,200 new partners for Asian and Latin-American food in the UK last year. High-end spots like Dishoom (Indian) and El Celler de Can Roca’s Mexican pop-ups have made ethnic food feel special, raising what people pay by 15% on average.
Health & Tech-Driven Convenience
Plant-based and "clean-label" meals from different countries are selling fast. The European Green Deal pushed brands to try biodegradable trays and use organic spices. Nestlé started offering a vegan tikka masala in compostable trays in March 2025. At the same time, EIT Food has put €3 million into 350 businesses. Many of these create meal kits with simple QR codes that give easy cooking steps. Stores like Carrefour use AI to see what customers want and change 400-plus meal items every week. This move has helped cut waste by 12%.
