Black Ops 6 Surprise Patch: What You Need to Know

Today we’re breaking down the latest Call of Duty Black Ops 6 update released on July 8. This patch includes important fixes for multiplayer, zombies, and Warzone modes, plus some significant weapon balance changes that will impact gameplay. Whether you're grinding ranked play or tackling the new Zombies challenges, here’s everything you need to know.
Multiplayer Patch Notes – What’s New?
The multiplayer update brings minor fixes but some crucial bug patches, including:
Fix for missing unlock requirements on some sprays
Correction of incompatible attachment text for the Olympia special weapon during matches
Addressed an issue with the Commando default class missing an extra lethal equipment slot
UI fixes for party operations and zone marker displays
Various stability improvements for smoother gameplay
There’s also mention of a possible fix related to skipping mastery challenges by bypassing camos and special challenges — a known glitch that some players exploited.
Zombies Mode Updates – Grief & Abomination Challenge Fixes
The Zombies mode received some tweaks to improve the experience:
Fixed an issue where the objective marker wasn’t displaying correctly in Grief mode capture zones
Adjusted the Abomination Challenge: reduced the damage taken by Mo from the Etherella trap to prevent instant kills
Fixed bugs where players didn’t receive challenge rewards (including calling cards and hidden Gobblegum) after killing Mo with a trap
Fixed an interaction issue with the Arsenal machine UI
If you completed the Abomination Challenge before this patch but didn’t get rewards, you might need to redo it.
Warzone Updates – Mode Changes and Ranked Play Restrictions
Warzone saw more noticeable changes:
Havoc Royale Mode: The melon heads modifier no longer activates in circle 4; other modifiers like Crouch Potato and Make It Rain are slightly more frequent, while Charge Jump and ICU are less frequent
Ranked Play Resurgence: Portable redeploy drones are now restricted and cannot be used
Weapon Balances – Buffs and Nerfs Breakdown
The update includes several weapon adjustments to balance gameplay, especially for long-range combat:
Visual recoil reduced for weapons using 2x, 3x, and 4x scopes across all Black Ops 6 guns, improving target tracking
Ames 85 AR: Damage range and headshot multiplier buffed for better mid to long-range performance
GPR91: Damage range increased, ADS speed improved, and lower torso multiplier buffed to make it more competitive
Kilo 141: Bullet velocity increased to improve hit consistency at longer ranges
CRIC C: Nerfed with decreased limb multipliers, increased recoil during sustained fire, and reduced extended mag size to raise skill ceiling
DM10 Marksman Rifle: Nerfed with reduced bullet velocity, slower ADS speed, and increased penalties for non-head/upper torso hits
The aim is to reward accuracy and precision for certain weapons, especially at range.
Bug Fixes & Quality of Life Improvements
The patch also addressed:
Fixes for crashes when editing loadouts
UI bugs including respawn timers and cranked modifier countdowns
Unlock requirements for sprays and other minor issues
