January 11, 2024: Renesas Electronics Corporation acquired Transphorm Inc., a GaN power semiconductor provider, for approximately USD 339 million. This strategic acquisition aims to enhance Renesas’ offerings in power semiconductors and capitalize on the growing demand for wide bandgap materials like GaN, essential for efficient power systems in electric vehicles, computing, renewable energy, and industrial applications.
April 2024: Transphorm, Inc., in collaboration with Weltrend Semiconductor Inc., introduced two new GaN SiPs: WT7162RHUG24C and WT7162RHUG24B. These SiPs integrate Weltrend’s high-frequency multi-mode Flyback PWM controller with Transphorm’s SuperGaN FETs, offering on-resistances of 480 mΩ and 150 mΩ respectively. This marks the establishment of the first SiP product family based on Transphorm’s SuperGaN platform.
