Most people planning a new stable spend considerable time on the structure — the steel framework, the roof, the ventilation system, the stall configuration. Then they get to the floor and make a quick decision based on whatever is easiest to source.

Six months later, the mats are shifting. The joints are collecting moisture. The horse is standing awkwardly in a corner it's identified as the firmest part of the stable.

Good horse stable flooring isn't complicated — but it requires the same deliberate thinking as every other element of the build. The rubber compound needs to maintain elasticity under sustained load. The surface profile needs to provide grip without being abrasive to hooves. The installation method — bonded, loose-lay, or interlocking — needs to match the substrate conditions and the management routine of the facility.

Get those decisions right from the start, and a stable floor can perform reliably for ten years or more. Get them wrong, and you'll be replacing sections within two.
