Papa John’s vs. Pizza Hut Qatar’s Hawaiian Pizza
If you’re in Doha and craving pineapple on pizza, you might be finding which place has the best Hawaiian pizza. So did I. As a resident of Qatar, I had the chance to taste Hawaiian Pizzas from two largest pizza brands in Qatar i.e PH and PJ. Last year, I ordered Pizza hut on my birthday treat for colleagues and Papa Johns to my house on a separate night. Here’s my comparison after I ran my own Hawaiian pizza taste test on both Papa John’s Hawaiian (45 QAR) and Pizza Hut Qatar’s Aloha Tropical Hawaiian (55 QAR).
Both were ordered as large pizzas. Important note: sauces and drinks are not included with either order, you’ll need to add and pay for those separately.
Here’s the full Hawaiian pizza showdown, based purely on taste, portion feel, and value.
Order Experience
Since both were ordered online, the checkout experience was smooth for each brand. Delivery timing was similar. Packaging quality was also consistent — sturdy boxes, heat retained well, just as expected from these top brands. First and for most, the price difference is noticeable upfront:
-
Papa John’s Hawaiian (Large): 45 QAR
-
Pizza Hut Aloha Tropical Hawaiian (Large): 55 QAR
That 10 QAR gap automatically sets different expectations. The basics of the Hawaiian styled pizza was consistent in both pizzas as both brands follow the classic Hawaiian formula:
-
Tomato sauce
-
Mozzarella cheese
-
Turkey ham
-
Pineapple chunks
But execution is where the difference begins.
Hawaiian Pizza Taste Test
Pineapple & Sweetness Level
Since I prefer savory over overly sweet, this was the key test for me. Papa John’s Hawaiian leans slightly sweeter. The pineapple chunks are noticeable and juicy. The tomato sauce has a brighter, sharper profile, which enhances the sweetness contrast. It feels balanced but clearly plays into the sweet-savory dynamic. On the other hand, Pizza Hut’s Aloha Tropical Hawaiian feels less sweet overall. The pineapple is present but doesn’t dominate. The cheese layer is thicker, which softens the sweetness and creates a more savory bite. The flavor feels more rounded rather than sharp.
If you enjoy the sweetness of pineapple in your Hawaiian Pizza , Papa John’s works well and if you prefer savory with pineapple acting as an accent, Pizza Hut delivers that better.
Cheese & Texture
This is where the two brands separate more clearly. Pizza Hut’s Aloha Tropical Hawaiian has a heavier cheese pull. The slice feels thicker and slightly softer at the base. The crust was slightly thicker and softer making the filling bite and make you feel fuller.
Papa John’s Hawaiian has a thinner base and slightly firmer bite. The cheese layer is lighter, allowing toppings to feel more individually distinct rather than blended together. The crust of the pizza is thinner and more crisp which would have better suited a savory pizza but never mind, its not a big point
In this pizza chain comparison Qatar, Pizza Hut leans indulgent and fulfillment while Papa John’s leans structured and lighter food.
Portion & Value Comparison
At 45 QAR, Papa John’s Hawaiian is the more affordable option than Pizza Hut Qatar’s 55 QAR Aloha Pizza. If you’re ordering purely based on budget, Papa John’s wins. If you’re measuring value by fullness per slice, Pizza Hut competes well despite the higher price. Again, remember: no sauces or drinks are included, so total cost increases once you add dips or beverages.
The Pineapple Debate: Does It Actually Work?
The pizza toppings pineapple debate is alive everywhere, but in Doha it’s surprisingly popular.
After trying both:
-
Papa John’s highlights the sweet contrast more clearly.
-
Pizza Hut integrates pineapple into a richer, savory base.
Neither felt overwhelming. Both maintain balance. The difference is simply how pronounced the sweetness feels.
Which Is the Best Hawaiian Pizza in Doha?
This depends on what you personally value.
Choose Papa John’s Hawaiian if:
-
You want the cheaper option.
-
You prefer lighter slices.
-
You enjoy slightly sweeter pineapple contrast.
Choose Pizza Hut Aloha Tropical Hawaiian if:
-
You prefer thicker, cheesier slices.
-
You lean toward savory balance.
-
You want a heavier, more filling bite.
This Hawaiian pizza comparison isn’t about one being dramatically better. It’s about style. Since I personally prefer savory balance, I slightly leaned toward Pizza Hut’s Aloha Tropical Hawaiian — but objectively, both are strong contenders in the best Hawaiian pizza in Doha conversation. Either way, pineapple on pizza in Qatar is alive and well.
