As Brandon Nimmo and the Mets search for answers to explain his lengthy batting slump, Carlos Mendoza turned to a troubling similarity from last season to help the skidding outfielder rule out a potential head injury. Nimmo acknowledged Friday that hes undergone further concu sion testing in recent Christian Felton Jersey days after noting that his slump has basically happened during the same time frame since he was hit by a pitch in the head on May 24 against the Giants. Nimmo stre sed that he has experienced no concu sion symptoms since that date after pa sing initial tests that night but he has continued undergoing head-injury evaluations after Mendoza told him what Rizzo went through last season with the Yankees. The first baseman continued playing after suffering what the Yankees initially termed a neck injury in May, but after a lengthy batting slump, he eventually was shut down in August with post-concu sion syndrome. Brandon Nimmo is in a long slump. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post Ive undergone tests and we are going to do more, just because Mendy dealt with that last year and he understands, Nimmo told The Post before going 2-for-3 with two singles and a hit by pitch at Citi Field. So there will be more tests. But I dont have any symptoms. I dont feel fuzzy, Im not having any trouble sleeping, I dont have any sensitivity to light. To my knowledge, Im fine, but it is something thats on the teams radar, for sure. Theyre trying to do right by me and making sure I continue to check all the boxes. So I will continue to undergo whatever they want me to do and make sure that nothing pops up. I just dont think its an excuse, but its definitely weird that it correlates to getting hit in the head. Explore More Since he was drilled with a pitch by San Franciscos Kyle Harrison three weeks ago, Nimmo has hit .210 with a .559 OPS and 27 strikeouts in 62 at-bats entering Fridays series opener, including 10 strikeouts in his previous four starts. If the struggles continue, Nimmo said he would consider reaching out to Rizzo, who batted just .172 with one homer in 169 at-bats after suffering his initial injury last season. Brandon Nimmo has undergone testing on his head. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST I havent done that, but maybe thats a good idea at some point. Well continue to do more tests, and maybe Ill need to talk to Rizzo and ask him what he [went through], Nimmo said. To my knowledge, thats not what this is, and I dont want to use it as an excuse. But it is weird that it correlates with that time period. If one of these tests tells me we need to worry about it, we can addre s it then. Right now, Im just trying to figure out what works. Its a weird time, Ive never swung and mi sed like this for such an extended time. He also was slowed by an illne s earlier in May and believes a few minor injuries have kind of snowballed on his swing more than any concu sion concerns. We want to make sure we check all the boxes. So I keep checking with him, the trainers keep checking with him. We want to continue to make sure he pa ses every protocol and checks boxes. We will continue to stay on it, Mendoza told The Post. After Rizzo got hurt, he kept saying he was fine, too. Brandon Nimmo initially went for testing during a series against the Giants. Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post And then however many weeks or months later, he came in and said, Im off and they said he had [a concu sion]. So I want to make sure we stay on top of it with Nimmo. But he keeps saying hes fine. In the meantime, the $162 million outfielder will attempt to figure out how to jumpstart his offensive game. Were trying to throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks, Nimmo said. Its definitely something thats unacceptable and Im frustrated by it.Its not up to my standards, but its part of baseball and the only thing I can control is to just keep grinding every day and do what I can. Its like the old Yogi Berra saying that you cant think and hit at the same time. Its true. But that;s where were at. I understand its really bad, and Im doing everything in my power to be better, but sometimes unfortunately it doesnt happen overnight. Alexander Mogilny Jersey
