Wind Services: Key Advantages and Disadvantages

Wind energy is a power system created through the use of wind turbines, which collect and process kinetic energy and change it to electrical energy. Wind energy, a.k.a. mechanical energy, is created by the combination of the uneven heating of the atmosphere, the earth's irregular surfaces, such as, mountains and valleys, and the earth's revolution around the sun.

When air is heated unevenly, areas of high and low pressure are created, which makes wind. When warm air and cool, dense air are near one another, the cool air replaces the warm air, which makes wind.

What is a turbine and how do they work? A turbine is a peice of machinery that spins to do work. A wind turbine spins its metal blades and that makes a drive shaft turn and that makes a generator produce electricity.

As per GMI Research, the Wind Services Market is forecast to reach USD 22.9 billion in 2031

Fossil fuels are burned to heat water and produce steam in conventional power plants.

Those turbines create energy from steam. The same thing happens in the wind energy industry. When the wind moves the blades of the turbines, we create electricity.

Wind turbines, once they have generated enough electricity, may be integrated with the electricity grid as well as be used in locations where electric power is required.

Wind Energy Advantages And Disadvantages

Wind energy, similar to other clean energy, has both positive and negative features. One type of renewable source of energy may prove to be better in different locations in comparison with other renewable source of energy. Therefore, it is important for consumers to identify which type of clean energy source is more plentiful in their region of the country.

Wind Energy Advantages

Usingfuel to generate electricity is similar to the power of the sun. There are a number of advantages such energy production provides, including the following.

1) Fuel Is Available Without Any Costs.

Wind turbines use wind power which is free to use. After the wind turbine has been constructed and installed, it does not have to be fuelled or connected to a source of power in order to function. This has decreased the carbon footprint and the overall cost to run large-scale wind farms as compared to other forms of renewable energies which may require some energy to run.

2) It Is One Of The Cleanest Forms Of Energy

The answer is yes; wind is indeed a renewable resource. The wind energy industry does not use fossil fuels to power the turbines required to harness wind energy. As a result, the industry does not adversely affect climate change by emitting greenhouse gasses. Wind energy only indirectly emits greenhouse gases when the wind turbines are manufactured, transported, and installed.

5) It Decreases Dependence On Fossil Fuels

Not only does burning fossil fuels to create energy result in the emission of greenhouse gases, but the sources of energy are finite and will eventually run out. Fueling the sun heats the earth and provides an endless wind energy source.

What Are Some Disadvantages Of Wind Energy?

1) Is Dangerous To Some Wildlife

The wind turbines installed in wind farms can endanger local wildlife. These wind farms can disrupt the habitat, migratory paths, or both of birds and bats, which may be injured or killed when flying into the turbine blades. The mortality of birds and bats is of particular concern at offshore wind farms, and is an issue that has been raised by fish and wildlife conservation groups.

Whirling turbine blades cause noise pollution which may affect the terrestrial wildlife.

2) It’s Noisy and Unsightly

Wind turbines are easy to hear so they are usually placed in remote locations. If the turbine is offshore, wind noise won’t be a concern. Newer turbine designs adapted to technologically advanced systems have improved and reduced noise across the board.

4) Wind is Unpredictable

Wind energy is fluctuating, and the reason for this is the wind itself. Wind moves at varying speeds and because of this, it is difficult to determine how much energy can be harnessed at a given time. Due to this, suppliers and cities have to have a surplus of energy stored, or other means of backup energy available to be used in the case that the wind is calm for an extended period.
