Nestled on the 6th and 7th floors of a luxurious apartment society in Bangalore, "The Jade & Grey Home" is a testament to sophisticated, uncluttered design. Crafted for a young couple, their daughter, and visiting grandparents, this duplex spans an impressive 2,400 square feet. The core design philosophy was to create a cozy, eminently livable space without succumbing to excessive clutter. With its abundant natural light and large windows, the home provided an excellent canvas for a design that is both playful and serene.

The two primary mandates from the clients were a deep love for neutral tones, particularly grey, and a desire for bold splashes of deep jade to create focal points throughout the house. This interplay between the muted and the vibrant is the very essence of the home’s aesthetic. The design is a study in contrasts, where every element is carefully chosen to complement or stand apart from its surroundings, resulting in a cohesive yet dynamic interior.

A Welcoming Entrance and Playful Living Spaces

Upon entering, one is greeted by a design that immediately establishes a sense of brightness and space. An arched mirror placed along one wall of the foyer not only adds a decorative touch but also cleverly creates the illusion of a more expansive area. This sets the stage for the main living area, where the design philosophy comes to life.

In the living room, the jade green sofa serves as a delectable focal point, contrasting beautifully with the large gray expanses of the walls. The mix of textures and patterns is a key feature here—the tufted edges of the armchairs are mirrored in the striped ottoman cushions, while a geometric print on the rug adds a dash of spice to the neutral backdrop.

One of the most striking features of the living room is a stunning gray wall feature that soars vertically across both floors. Using a technique known as punning, the designers created a concrete-like texture, punctuated by grooved arches that infuse the space with a playful, contemporary feel. These arches are part of a broader, curve-inspired design language that is echoed throughout the home. Given the dramatic presence of this wall feature, the media unit was intentionally kept simple and minimalistic, featuring a wooden countertop, tinted glass, and vertical grooves. The west-facing orientation of the home ensures minimal daytime glare, and the massive, automated floor-to-ceiling curtains in a black-tinted finish add a final touch of functional elegance.

The Kitchen and Master Suite: Contrasts and Conversations

The kitchen is a masterpiece of simple, functional design. Appliances are neatly arranged along one side, while storage units finished in a deep jade hue are sited beneath ribbed glass elements on the upper cabinet doors. Elongated arrow tiles on the countertop draw the eye down its length, enhancing the sense of light and space, and are complemented by sleek, all-black hardware.

Moving upstairs, the master bedroom offers a striking study in contrasts. A vibrant jade headboard erupts with a blast of color, while taupe wall panels provide a calming, neutral backdrop. The bedside tables are a conversation starter in themselves, with one being a stolid, chunky piece and the other an elegant tripod, accented by a lovely brass pendant light. The wardrobes are equally captivating, showcasing two distinct looks: a light gray and brass finish on the right, and a beaded taupe door with a black steel handle on the left.

The child's room, located nearby, is a delightful space designed with a playful spirit.
