L’annunciata “transizione politica” evocata da Donald Trump apre scenari del tutto incerti: non sappiamo quale forma potrà assumere un eventuale nuovo assetto di governo venezuelano, né quali conseguenze immediate possa avere sul piano della sicurezza e delle relazioni internazionali. Ed è proprio questa imprevedibilità a rendere la situazione ancora più inquietante. A farne le spese, come spesso accade, sono cittadini, cooperanti, addetti ai lavori e connazionali che non hanno nulla a che vedere con conflitti o interessi strategici. In questo silenzio generale, il caso di Alberto Trentini resta aperto e rischia di essere oscurato da una lettura esclusivamente “macro” degli eventi. Per chi, come molti di noi, si è già battuto in passato per la libertà di espressione e per il rispetto dei diritti fondamentali — seguendo negli anni il caso di Julian Assange — è impossibile ignorare una vicenda come questa. Anche perché il caso Trentini non è isolato: sono 12 i cittadini italiani detenuti. Tra loro c’è appunto il cooperante veneziano, da oltre un anno nel carcere di El Rodeo I, a Caracas, senza che sia mai stata formalizzata alcuna accusa nei suoi confronti. L’ultimo aggiornamento risale al 15 dicembre, quando la questione sarebbe stata affrontata direttamente con Washington durante la visita a Roma del procuratore generale Pam Bondi, oltre a essere oggetto di interlocuzioni anche a livello di servizi. Il tema sarebbe emerso, seppur senza conferme ufficiali, anche nei colloqui tra la Presidente del Consiglio Giorgia Meloni e il Presidente statunitense Donald Trump, nei giorni immediatamente precedenti all’operazione militare. L’Italia avrebbe inoltre chiesto esplicitamente che, in caso di un’azione americana finalizzata al rimpatrio dei cittadini USA, venisse incluso anche Alberto Trentini. Una richiesta che spiega l’attenzione costante riservata al suo dossier nelle interlocuzioni con Washington, soprattutto dopo l’arresto, nei giorni scorsi, di quattro cittadini statunitensi ora detenuti proprio a El Rodeo. Ma tutto questo, oggi, non è sufficiente. Non è fuori luogo temere un inasprimento delle reazioni e delle misure da parte delle autorità venezuelane. In contesti come questi, alcuni detenuti rischiano di diventare consapevolmente “merce di scambio”, strumenti utili a rilanciare richieste e ad avviare negoziazioni lunghe e opache, spesso interrotte o rimesse a tacere da nuovi atti di forza. L’auspicio è che questi connazionali non diventino vittime sacrificali di un conflitto che non hanno scelto. Perché la vera solidità di un sistema politico si misura nella cura dei singoli casi, non nella gestione astratta degli interessi.
