Non ho più la mia casa né le cose che amavo, ma ho qualcuno che sistema la mia stanza, prepara il mio cibo e il mio letto, mi misura la pressione e mi pesa.

Non ho più le risate dei miei nipoti, non li vedo crescere, abbracciarsi e litigare; alcuni vengono a trovarmi ogni 15 giorni, altri ogni tre o quattro mesi, altri mai...

Non preparo più crocchette, né uova ripiene, né polpette.

Ho ancora un passatempo: fare Sudoku, che risulta essere un po' divertente.

Non so quanto tempo mi resta, ma devo abituarmi a questa solitudine; vado in terapia occupazionale e aiuto, per quanto posso, chi sta peggio di me, anche se non voglio avvicinarmi troppo.

Scompaiono spesso. Si dice che la vita si allunghi sempre di più.

A cosa serve?

Quando sono solo, posso guardare le foto della mia famiglia e qualche ricordo della casa che ho portato con me.

E questo è tutto.

Spero che le prossime generazioni capiscano che la famiglia si crea per avere un domani (con i figli) e per restituire ai nostri genitori il tempo che ci hanno donato per crescerci.

I am 82 years old, I have 4 children, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a 3 x 3 room in a nursing home where they left me.

I no longer have my home or the things I loved, but I have someone who tidies up my room, prepares my food and my bed, measures my blood pressure and weighs me.

I no longer have the laughter of my grandchildren, I no longer see them grow, hug and argue; some come to visit me every 15 days, others every three or four months, others never...

I no longer prepare croquettes, nor stuffed eggs, nor meatballs.

I still have a hobby: doing Sudoku, which turns out to be a bit fun.

I don't know how much time I have left, but I have to get used to this solitude; I go to occupational therapy and help, as much as I can, those who are worse off than me, even if I don't want to get too close.

They often disappear. They say that life is getting longer and longer.

What's the point?

When I am alone, I can look at photos of my family and some memories of the house that I have brought with me.

And that is all.

I hope that the next generations will understand that family is created to have a tomorrow (with children) and to give back to our parents the time they gave us to raise us.
